11th Anniversary of Col.Kittu to be commemorated

The eleventh death anniversary of Senior Commander of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), Sathasivam Krishnakumar (Col.Kittu), and nine other LTTE cadres is to be celebrated across the NorthEast, Friday, sources in Jaffna said. When the Indian Navy on Jan. 16, 1993, intercepted the ship Kittu was travelling, Kittu refused to surrender and blew up the ship killing himself and other LTTE cadres.

Posters displaying pictures of Col.Kittu and his companions are seen across walls the Jaffna peninsula.

The main event is scheduled to take place at 5pm at the Thiruvil square in Valvettiturai, sources said.

Parents of LTTE martyrs will be taken in a procession with marching bands to the venue. The event will commence with hoisting of Tamil Eelam flag and lighting the flame of sacrifice. Rehabilitated memorials of the ten martyrs will be unveiled followed by memorial speeches by key LTTE officials and respected members of the local community.

Another event is scheduled at the Muthirai Santhi near Jaffna Town at the Kittu Memorial Garden.

  • Lt.Col.Kuttisiri: Rasaiah Sri Ganesan from Suthumalai, Jaffna.
  • Sea Tiger Captain Jeeva: Nadarajah Mark Jeyarajah from Pashaiyoor, Jaffna
  • Sea Tiger Captain Gunaseelan: Segan Cruz Michael Jeeva from Maniam Thottam in Jaffna
  • Major Malaravan (Velan): Suntharalingam Suntharavel from Viyaparimoolai, Point Pedro.
  • Sea Tiger Captain Rosan: Ratnalingam Arunarajah from Nallur Jaffna
  • Sea Tiger Captain Nayagam: Sivalingam Seharan from Polikandy in Point Pedro
  • Sea Tiger Lt.Thuyavan: Mahalingam Jeyalingam from Kandy Road, Jaffna
  • Sea Tiger Lt.Amuthan: Aloysius Johnson from Navanthurai, Jaffna
  • Sea Tiger Lt.Nallarasan: Sivagnanasundaram Ramesh from Columbuthurai, Jaffna
