Seminar for Karate instructors begins in Trinco

Ministry of Sports in collaboration with the North East Ministry of Sports Tuesday inaugurated a three-day seminar for Karate instructors in the eight districts of the province at the Mc Heyzer Stadium in Trincomalee. Mr.K.Ramachandran, Referee Counsellor of the Sri Lanka Karate Federation, is responsible for conducting the seminar, sport sources said.

Mr.Ramachandran said seminar would focus its attention on judging and technical side of the sport. Mr.Ramachandran is the past President of the Sri Lanka Karate Federation.

This is the first time the Line Ministry of Sports is conducting a seminar for northeast karate instructors, he said.

He added about two thousand Karate sportsmen and women are in the northeast province and they need training in the sport.

Provincial Assistant Director of Sports Mr.K.W.Wimalarajan is in the charge of organizing the seminar.

Mr.Anura Kathiriarachchi, President of the Sri Lanka Karate Federation will attend the final day of seminar and will award certificates to the participants. Mr.Anura Kathiriarachchi is one of the five referees of the Asian Karate Federation, sources said.

Meanwhile, two-day Karate competition organized by Thamileelam Karate Federation in Killinochchi in the memory of Major Eelapriya of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam concluded (October 24) Sunday. In the 75 kg competition Mr.D.F.Aloysius, chief instructor of Trincomalee Karate Association won the first place. Mr.Paapa awarded him with gold medal and certificate.

Karate sportsmen and women from all the eight districts in the province participated in the competition, sources said.
