Trinco White Pigeon Prosthesis Institute to get own workshop[TamilNet, Monday, 27 June 2005, 00:04 GMT]Dr.N.Sathiamoorthy, Chairman of the London White Pigeon Prosthesis Institute Sunday evening laid the foundation stone for the construction of the workshop of the Trincomalee White Pigeon Prosthesis Institute at Nithiyapuri, a suburb about 4 k.m. north Trincomalee town along Uppuveli-Nilaveli Road. London White Pigeon Prosthesis Institute is to finance the project at an estimated cost of one hundred thousand Sterling Pounds, Dr.Sathiyamoorthy said. Machinery and equipments needed for the proposed workshop in Trincomalee at an estimated cost of 40 thousand Sterling Pounds have been shipped from London. Mr.Mike Wardlow, Prosthesis Consultant and Dr.Daniel Muthuvelu are to visit Trincomalee for providing the design layout for the workshop, which is expected to cost about 60 thousand sterling pounds to build, he said.
Dr.Sathiyamoorthy said at the event that the workshop constructed in Trincomalee will manufacture artificial limbs needed for the mine victims not only in Trincomalee district but to all victims in the entire eastern province. The new Institute in Trincomalee is expected to be opened on the World Disabled Day, which falls on December 3, TRO sources said. White Pigeon Prosthesis Institute is working under the aegis of the Trincomalee Rehabilitation Organization (TRO). The Trincomalee White Pigeon Prosthesis Institute was opened on 28 April 2003. Since then mine victims in Trincomalee and other parts of the eastern province are sent to Killinochchi prosthesis workshop of the White Pigeon Institute for fixing artificial limbs, TRO sources said. ![]() TRO, LTTE and Trincomalee White Pigeon Prosthesis Institute officials attended the foundation stone laying event. ![]()
