10 km race marks International Women's Day celebrations

Vavuniya District Rehabilitation Organisation for Women conducted a 10 km marathon race Thursday 6 am celebrating International Women's Day, presided by Ms. Pathmavathy, District Director, sources said. Forty two women took part in the race that extended from Mankulam to Kanagarayankulam.

Women participants from Pulliyankulam, Kanagarayankulam, Chinadampan, Nedunkerny, Palamodai and other areas took part in the marathon which began near Mankulam Pandaravaniyan Government Tamil Mixed School and ended in front of Kanagarayankulam Maha Vidyalayam.

Vavuniya District head of LTTE political wing, Gnanam, Executive Director of the District Rehabilitation Organisation for Women S. Sutharsini, District head of the women political wing of the LTTE Avarthana and Kanagarayankulam regional political head of the LTTE, Mullaimani, introduced the participants before the event, sources said.

Ms. J. Disanthi from Nedunkerny secured the first place followed by Ms. P. Sulosana also from Nedunkerny second and the third place was won by Ms. K. Thamayanthi from Pulliyankulam, organisers of the race said.
