Tamil Women's Reawakening Day held in Eachchilampathu

Tamileelam Women's Reawakening Day was celebrated in the LTTE controlled Eachchilampathu division, south of Trincomalee district. Hundreds of women in the villages in the division participated. One week long sports competition also came to a conclusion on Wednesday evening at Sri Sembaga Maha Vidiyalayam grounds, coinciding with the International Women's Day, sources said.

Mr.S.Elilan, Trincomalee district political head of the LTTE lit the flame of sacrifice and Ms Marutham, Trincomalee commander of the Sothia Brigade hoisted the Thamileelam National Flag.

Ms Santhi, President of the Women Society, presided.

Mr.Elilan, Ms Kaaronja, LTTE Trincomalee district women political head and Ms Kalipillai, village level officer spoke at the event. Cultural shows followed.

Mr.Elilan in his address appealed to Tamil women to come forward to participate in the development of the NorthEast. Even though the Tamileelam liberation struggle has created equal opportunities, Tamil women should engage themselves more in utilizing these opportunities, Elilan added.
