Norwegian Special Envoy Jon Hanssen Bauer, Norwegian Ambassador Hans Brattskar and Head of Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) Major General Ulf Henricsson left Trincomalee town after meeting the General Officer of Commanding (GOC) of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) in the east port town. Later, they held discussion with Trincomalee district head of the SLMM and monitors based in Trincomalee, SLMM sources said.

The visit is reported to have connected with the controversy over the re-opening of the closed sluice gate of the Maavilaru, sources said.

SLMM monitors from the districts of Jaffna, Mannar, Batticaloa and Amparai also participated in the discussion held in the office of the Trincomalee Monday morning, SLMM sources said.

They did not meet the Government Agent of Trincomalee district as the latter was out of the town. Trincomalee district secretariat sources said that the GA had gone to Kantalai to supervise the distribution of humanitarian relief to the internally displaced from Muthur and Seruvila divisions.

Mr. Jon Hanssen Bauer and Mr. Hans Brattskar left around 10:30 a.m. and Mr. Henriccson at about 1.30 p.m. by road.
