LTTE and Army exchange fire

The Liberation Tigers fired mortars at Sri Lankan Army (SLA) post at Viyapari Moolai, from the sea off Pt. Pedro, around 9 p.m. yesterday . The SLA retaliated by firing mortars at Pt. Pedro sea till 10.30 p.m.

The SLA's mortar firing began again at 11.30 p.m. and continued till 1 a.m. today.

Further details were not yet available. However, the SLA's civil administration office in Pt. Pedro, which normally opens at 8.30 a.m., was opened after 10.30 a.m today.

Meanwhile the Special Task Force (STF) said today that a female member of the Liberation Tigers, Shanmukam Vasanthi alias Mathavi, 22, surrendered at the Karaithivu STF camp in Amparai today.

They said she has been a LTTE member since 1995 and had taken part in several attacks against the government forces.
