Muslim woman killed in grenade attack in Vaazhaichcheanai

Armed men attacked a house in Maavadichcheanai in Vaazhaichcheanai with hand grenade and gunfire Sunday around 4:30 a.m killing a Muslim woman asleep and seriously injuring her two-year-old son, Vaazhzichecheanai Assistant Police Commissioner, Sunil Wijeyasekara said.

The victim was identified as Musthapa Rasimiya, 26, and the injured son as Mohamed Amar, 02.

The mother and son were asleep in their house at Ka'nkaa'niyaar Veethi in Maavadichcheanai, Vaazhaichcheanai in Batticaloa district.

The police who had identified some of the attackers are continuing investigations.

The victim's body was handed over to Vaazhaichcheanai hospital for post mortem examinations to be held.
