Police name massacre victims

Sri Lankan police has released names of 13 Tamil detainees massacred at the Bindunuwewa detention center in Bandarawela on Wednesday. The police said many bodies are charred beyond recognition by the fire at the Centre.

Following are the names of the 13 persons released by the police so far:

6.Mohan Sinnathurai; Aanathapuram; Trincomalee
7.Ravitharan Kanapathipillai; Lingapuram; Manalaaru
8.Vijeyenthiran Visvalingam, Navatkadhu; Batticaloa
9.Balakumar Marimuththu, Pullaveli; Batticaloa
10.Mathiyalakan Puniyamoorthy, Mutur, Trincomalee
11.Selvarajah Thurairajah, Thampanai; Jaffna
12.Mukunthan Sivayokarajan, Karaveddi East; Jaffna
13.Vipulanantharajah Sivayokarajan; Thirukovil; Amparai

Meanwhile Tamils in the central hill town of Bandarawela Thursday observed the Deepavali festival as a day of mourning, praying in Hindu temples as a mark of respect to those detainees killed in the massacre.
