[TamilNet, Thursday, 22 January 1998, 23:59 GMT]
The Liberation Tigers are expected to help a soldier of the Sri Lankan Army return home soon, said the 'Thinamurasu' the largest selling Tamil weekly in Sri Lanka which hit the streets today.

The soldier, who was not identified, surrendered to the LTTE after escaping from the Morokkotanchenai camp about 22 kilometers north of Batticaloa.

He had escaped from the camp after quarrelling with his superiors who had denied him leave to visit his parents.

He explained his predicament to the Tigers who are expected to make arrangements for him to return home.

A few months ago when a soldier from the Kaluvankerny camp, 18 kilometers northeast of Batticaloa surrendered to the LTTE, not only was he freed, but the Tigers made arrangements for him to go home too said the paper.
