ADB aided computer-training centre opened in Trincomalee[TamilNet, Wednesday, 25 June 2003, 17:33 GMT]The first computer-training centre in the Trincomalee district, established under the Asian Development Bank funded scheme by the Ministry of Education to promote computer literacy among students, was declared open ceremonially Wednesday by parliamentarian Mr.R.Sampanthan at the Trincomalee Sri Shanmuga Hindu Girls College.
The other three centres will be opened in due course at Muttur Central College (Muttur education zone), Kantalai Sri Agrabodhi Maha Vidiyalayam (Kantalai education zone) and Trincomalee Rajkeeya Vidyaloka Maha Vidyalaya (Trincomalee education zone), provincial education ministry sources said. Trincomalee district parliamentarian from the Tamil National Alliance, Mr.Sampanthan, and the TNA’s national list parliamentarian, Mr.K.Thurairetnasingham, participated as chief guests. Provincial Director of Education Mr.S.Mahalingam and Trincomalee zonal Director of Education Mr.K.Thilakaretnam attended as the guest of honour and special guest respectively, sources said.
The Principal of the College, Ms. Chandra Balasubramaniam, welcoming the guests said," We would be considered illiterate if we failed to obtain computer knowledge. The establishment of a computer-training centre has come as a boon to students of our college."
