ADB aided computer-training centre opened in Trincomalee

The first computer-training centre in the Trincomalee district, established
under the Asian Development Bank funded scheme by the Ministry of Education
to promote computer literacy among students, was declared open ceremonially Wednesday by parliamentarian Mr.R.Sampanthan at the Trincomalee Sri Shanmuga Hindu Girls College.
Students follow computer class.
The Hindu Ladies College (Trincomalee education zone) is one of the four schools in the Trincomalee district selected for the establishment of four computer training centres. Twenty computers have been provided to each centre to train students.
The other three centres will be opened in due course at Muttur Central
College (Muttur education zone), Kantalai Sri Agrabodhi Maha Vidiyalayam
(Kantalai education zone) and Trincomalee Rajkeeya Vidyaloka Maha Vidyalaya
(Trincomalee education zone), provincial education ministry sources said.
Trincomalee district parliamentarian from the Tamil National Alliance, Mr.Sampanthan, and the TNA’s national list parliamentarian, Mr.K.Thurairetnasingham, participated as chief guests. Provincial Director of Education Mr.S.Mahalingam and Trincomalee zonal

and special guest respectively, sources said.

The Principal of the College, Ms. Chandra Balasubramaniam, welcoming the
guests said," We would be considered illiterate if we failed to obtain computer
knowledge. The establishment of a computer-training centre has come as a
boon to students of our college."

Mr.Sampanthan commended the educational performance of the students on the results they obtained in the last year GCE O/L examination. He said that the Trincomalee Sri Shanmuga Hindu Ladies College is now considered a leading institution not only in the northeast but also among all Tamil medium schools in the entire country.
