Swiss Tamils protest SLA violence againt NE women

0Members of Swiss Tamils Women's Association held a protest rally in front of UNICEF offices in Zurich Monday against the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) violence on women in NorthEast, Tamil sources in Switzerland said. The protesters appealed in a Memorandum addressed to the Government of Switzerland and UNICEF to condemn the SLA violence, and to pressure the Government of Sri Lanka to take steps to stop the violence immediately, spokesperson Nirmala Pararajasingham said.

Six thousand civilians complete training in Muttur east

0The graduation ceremony for about six thousand villagers who have completed their training under the civilian volunteer force programme in the LTTE-held Muttur east villages was held Friday evening at Sri Senbaga Maha Vidiyalyam grounds in Eachchilampathu division in the Trincomalee district. "Sinhala government in the south has shown its unwillingness to respect the legitimate rights of Tamil people. We are forced to strengthen ourselves with the support of Tamil people under the leadership and guidance of our national leader to move the liberation struggle vigorously forward," said Mr. S. Elilan, LTTE Trincomalee district political head, in a speech at the event, LTTE sources said.

Daughter shot dead, father seriously injured in Jaffna

Suspected Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers and EPDP paramilitaries shot and killed Jaffna resident Ms Sathasivam Mathuri, 32, and seriously injured her father Kasipillai Sathasivam, 75, Thursday midnight at 12:17 a.m. at their home in Athiyadi New road, in Athiyady, located 2 km northeast of Jaffna Town, residents said. Sathasivam is the father of a senior Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) commander Archuna, who died in mid 80's in Mannar, and Mathuri is his sister.

"Aerial bombardment is interpreted as undeclared war on the Tamil nation," he told media after concluding a meeting with the Norwegian Ambassador Hans Brattskar, clarifying the LTTE's response to Norway's five questions. "Colombo, obsessed with going to war with the Tamil Nation, has already begun to impose economic blockade on the Tamil homeland," LTTE's Political Head told media.

Confirming that the parties to the CFA, the Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL) and the LTTE, have submitted their responses to the five questions posed by Norway, Mr. Hans Brattskar told media that Norway, as facilitator, has to take note of LTTE's point of view, although Norway regretted the LTTE's stand to the continued engagement of EU Member States from Nordic countries in the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM).

Thamilchelvan met in Oslo with legal experts from the Tamil diaspora, Saturday, Tamil sources from Oslo said. The discussions focussed on the status quo between the Sri Lankan and the LTTE forces, including the territorial sea rights, and formulated recommendations to the LTTE leadership on the future course of action on these matters. Head of Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) during Friday's meeting had confirmed SLMM's position on sea-activities that officials of the SLMM will not travel on board the Sri Lankan vessels until the sea dispute is resolved between the parties.

"Sri Lanka displaying crass exhibitionism, has abandoned all norms of diplomatic protocol by disrespecting the efforts of Norwegian facilitators by making a quick exit from Norway. It is a major political blunder," said S.P.Thamilchelvan speaking to reporters at 4:00 p.m. Friday, sources from Norway said.
