The war-affected families, especially the elder-generation among them, were caught in trauma due to the roaming vehicles and the live firing, which reminded them of the times of genocidal onslaught in 2007. The political observers in the East ask the question for whom the marine force is getting prepared at the physical and psychological expense of war-affected Eezham Tamils of Moothoor East. The Sinhala colonial governor was arguing in favour of the extremist Sinhala Buddhist monks stating that the lands belong to the Buddhist vihara. The move, which has long been objected by the Tamil-speaking Muslims, is surfacing again at the absence of an elected Provincial Council in the East. Tamil-speaking activists in Pulmoaddai say that the Sinhala Buddhist establishment is trying to survey at least 1,300 acres of lands from Arisimalai to Thiriyaay in the division of Kuchchave'li. The encroachment targets the strategic border between the Northern and Eastern provinces choking off the territorial contiguity of the Tamil homeland. The move is also seen as an attempt to annex Thennai-maravadi with the Sinhala division of Padavi Sri Pura in the west to create a sea-access corridor to that division. Besides, the move also threatens the neighbouring Tamil-speaking Muslim village of Pulmoaddai, Tamil and Muslim grassroots activists in Kuchchave'li told TamilNet this week. Although some historians accept that fact, the present Sinhala historians do not take it. Back in the old days, when H.C. Ray was the professor of history at the University of Ceylon, he used to refute the claim that Tamils were interlopers. The interlopers were the Sinhalas and not the Tamils, he used to say. However, one is unable to resonate that fact anymore, says Rt Rev Dr S Jebanesan, the former Bishop of the Jaffna Diocese of the Church of South India, in an exclusive interview to TamilNet. The tyranny of the ‘majority’ is dominating the post-colonial political discourses and the case of ‘Sri Lanka’ is a classic example of this trend, the scholar of philosophy, theology as well as the Tamil and English languages, said. The TID wants to record a written statement from Mr Krsihnakumar. The latest harassment involving a journalist in the East is reported amidst a series of similar interrogation ‘invitations’ being served to Tamil activists, including a provincial minister in the North, especially after Eezham Tamils marking the Tamil Genocide Remembrance Day on 18 May. The mobilised action response from the native Tamil fishers came as the intruding divers from the South had sneaked into the seas off Kaddaik-kaadu in Vadamaraadchi East with lighting and diving equipment in three boats. The native fishers, who spotted the massive lighting, wanted to hand over the detained poachers with evidence to the fisheries authorities. But, the SL police of occupying Colombo intervened and freed the intruding southern poachers. It also turned against the Tamil fishers. The discriminatory conduct spontaneously triggered off strong reactions from the people, who demanded the SL Police to revert its position. Two weeks ago, on 30 May, Colombo also signed a trade deal with the subsidiary of the American firm Schlumberger for seismic study off the east coast of the occupied country of Eezham Tamils. Now, commando units of the notorious Special Task Force (STF) have been deployed to carry out days long clearing operations in Moothoor East where SLNS Vidura naval base is located. The decision is a victory for the Right of Self-determination oriented national liberation armed struggles that get wrongly classified as terrorism due to international politics, Marcel Bosonnet, one of the legal experts who defended the Tamil activists told TamilNet in an interview on Friday. The judges felt that there were not enough concrete proofs to consider the LTTE as a criminal organisation. This ruling is outstanding and is much better-placed than the EU ruling as it challenges the international politics based terrorism classification with a principled legal question, Tamil legal activists in Switzerland said. The families have democratically rejected it with majority Tamils opposing it than those attending its sittings. Further, the OMP is unable to stand the two tests placed by the district organisations of the families of enforced disappeared, Eeswary Mariyathas, the head of Mullaiththeevu district organisation for enforced disappeared, told TamilNet on Thursday. Her opinion comes as the uprooted people in Trincomalee followed the trend in Mannaar, Vavuniyaa and Mullaiththeevu in staging protests against the deceptive OMP. The Indian Central Government has been claiming that assistance was meant for the development of the war-affected North. But, the native people or their Provincial Council, which was introduced following the Indo-Lanka Accord, have no say or access to KKS Harbour, Cement Factory and the people are not resettled. The entire area is still a Sinhala Military Zone. Now, plans are afoot to set up an IT industry through deploying occupying Sinhala military personnel with foreign assistance. In the meantime, SL military commander in Jaffna is also aiming to put up an export-oriented garments industry in KKS and is consulting with major garments industrial owners in the South. The list is not complete as it does not include the Buddhist temples that are located inside the Sinhala military camps, the NPC sources told TamilNet on Friday. The monk, claiming the establishment as Gurukanda has been collecting the belongings of uprooted Tamils and claiming these as heritage artefacts from an ancient Sinhala Buddhist settlement of his imagination. In fact, there was a Buddhist vihara in the past, and it didn't belong to Sinhala Theravada Buddhism, the officials said. The Sinhalicisation of the area aims at destroying the territorial contiguity of the North and the East, which is the traditional homeland of Eezham Tamils. Around 400 family members protested in front of the DS office while only about 50 attended the sittings. SL Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe and Sinhala colonial Governor to North Reginald Cooray have been promoting the idea during the recent visit by the former to Jaffna on 28 May. The latest move is an acid test for the integrity of the Government of The Netherlands, which has been criticised by the Eezham Tamils as failing to recognise the territorial and heritage ownership of Eezham Tamils but facilitating the agenda of the occupying SL State with its Colombo-centered approach of the entire renovation project. The latest controversy and a hate speech highlighted in Tamil language media come as a reaction to the insignificant issue of 33 cows getting purchased for meat by a slaughterhouse in Chaavakachcheari following the due civic procedures in Jaffna. The Hindutva-influenced sections were staging a protest against what they termed as Islamic slaughter of cows regarded as sacred animals by Buddhists and Hindus. Unable to wait for the lengthy and costly process of securing passports, they are taking too much of risks and face harassments from the occupying SL Navy and SL Police. However, they continue to hire boats to reach their homeland unable to tolerate the humiliating conditions prevailing in the camps such as Ma'ndapam refugee camp in Tamil Nadu. Many of them have heartbreaking stories to narrate. Due to poverty, they are unable to bear the costs associated with an official return. The UNHCR, which is the UN refugee agency tasked with a formal role to take care of their resettlement, is ineffective, they say. While the people on the ground paid tribute, expressed their collective trauma, the younger generation contributed to safeguarding the collective memorialisation from the electoral politics of genocidal Sri Lanka paving the way for logical thinking taking precedence over rhetorics. Justice C. V. Wigneswaran has come with a diplomatically well-crafted speech, raising pertinent questions to the world humanity as well as to the Tamils. His message to the so-called International Community was finding ways without delay for direct engagement with Eezham Tamils cutting the Colombo red tape imposed on Tamils through the so-called ‘Sri Lankan’ State sovereignty. At the same time, a planned move is also underway to use the ethnic sentiments of the Sinhala students to speed up the process of Sinhalicisaton of the administration of the campus. The sinister move is said to be the motive behind the latest controversy over a handful of students from the South attempting to forcefully erect a Buddha temple within the premises of Vavuniyaa campus. In the meantime, the diplomatic missions based in Colombo are actively involved in a systematic ‘pacification’ programme targeting Tamil academics and students to indirectly abet the Sinhalicisation of Tamil educational institutions.
