Thiruketheeswaram war affected families receive houses

Seva Lanka, a non-governmental organization handed over twenty-four houses constructed in Thiruketheeswaram area in the Mannar district to beneficiaries on Wednesday. Mr.T.Lankaneson, Project Director of the NECORD ceremonially opened the housing scheme, sources said. Funding for the housing projecte was praovided by the North East Community Restoration Development (NECORD) project.

ADB funded pre-school opens in Pooneryn

Mr.Ramanathan, President of the Socio-Economic Development Society (SEDS) presided the event, sources said.

Vidathaltivu war victims receive income generating aid

Adampan hospital reopens after fifteen years

The newly constructed government hospital at a cost of about twenty million rupees at Adampan in Mannar district was declared open for the use of civilians residing in the villages of Aandankulam, Palaiyady, Puthukulam, Parapukadanthan, Vaddakandal, and Karukkaikulam held by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) with religious observances. Adampan is located in the LTTE held area. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) funded North East Community Restoration Development (NECORD) project carried out the project, sources said.

Jaffna Cancer unit to reopen after 15 years

Fishermen from Pesalai and Talaimannar in Mannar district Friday complained to NorthEast Governor Mr.Tyronne Fernando that deepening of the Palk Straits under the Sethusamudram Canal Project (SSCP) would destroy the breeding ground of fish in the sea territory close to Mannar shore. Mr.Tyronne Fernando during his one-day visit to Mannar Friday afternoon met with groups of fishermen in Pesalai and Talaimannar separately and inquired about their grievances and difficulties, Mannar district secretariat sources said.

Mr.Y.Kanzaki, Chief Advisor, Mr.K.Senga, Director General, Mr.Alessandro A.Pio, Country Director and Mr.Lan A Gill of ADB accompanied him. Sri Lanka's Treasury Secretary Mr.S.B.Jeyasundara and his Deputy Mr.S.B.Divaratne also came with the ADB team.

NECORD provides building to Salli students
