Police order Pesalai civilians to leave their houses

All Tamil families residing in Ward No: 01 of Pesalai in Mannar district Sunday sought refuge elsewhere in the area following the instruction of the Pesalai Police that they should leave their houses immediately. The instruction was issued following a grenade attack on the Pesalai Police Station located in Ward No: 01.

SLA soldier killed in Mannar

One soldier of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) was killed in a fight between SLA and LTTE around midnight on Saturday at Parapankandal in Mannar district. He was identified as Serath Mudiansalage Sisira Premlal aged 39 of Avissawella and military sergeant in rank. His body was handed over to the Mannar general hospital, Murunkan Police said.

Explosion injures Mannar civilian

Unidentified assailants lobbed explosives, suspected to be dynamite, at the house of Mr.Ignatius, driver employed by the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) in Mannar Thursday early morning around 12.30 a.m. located along Moor Street in Mannar town. Diluxan, son of Mr.Ignatius, was injured in the explosion. Sources said.

SLMM Trinco office remains closed

The main office of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM), located on Inner Harbour Road, leading to the Trincomalee naval base, remains closed until further notice since Wednesday's artillery shell attack on the east port base. Monitors are now staying in their quarters in a hotel about sixteen km off the town.

Claymore attack, artillery fire in Mannar

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) launched artillery fire from Thallady and Uyilankulam camps towards Parappankandal, 16 km southeast of Mannar town, after two SLA troopers were wounded in a Claymore attack around 6:45 a.m. Thursday. SLA troopers exchanged gunfire with the ambush-men and launched mortar and artillery fire. One civilian was wounded in artillery fire in Parappankandal. More than a 100 families from SLA controlled areas moved into the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) controlled territories following indiscrimate artillery fire.

Police constable shot dead in Pesalai

Unidentified men shot and killed a police constable when he was returning from a shop to report for duty at a sentry point located in the heart of Pesalai town Wednesday evening around 4:00 p.m., police sources in Mannar said. The dead constable was identifed as S.M.Mahinda, 41, of Minuwangoda. The Police fired back but no one was injured.

Two Mannar Tamils reported missing

SLA soldiers gun down MPCS branch manager in Mannar

The Manager of Manthai South Multi-Purpose Co-operative Society (MPCS) branch in Uyilankulam, was gunned down by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troopers at Manatkulam Junction, 14 km southeast of Mannar town, while he was returning home. Police said that the MPCS manager was hit when SLA troopers opened fire after a grenade attack on the checkpost. The incident took place around 5:45 p.m. Thursday.
