Occupying Colombo converts 6 Tamil colleges in North as quarantine centres for SL military

Occupying Colombo’s military has started to convert a Tamil college of teachers in Jaffna and five other schools in the Northern province as Quarantine Centres for military personnel stationed in the region. Civil sources in the North have condemned it as a high-handed move disregarding the safety of Tamil civilians in the densely populated areas. The top brass of the Sinhala military has not consulted the provincial and local authorities. They have not even asked the provincial health director for advice. Nirosh Thiyagarajah, the Chairman of Valikaamam East Divisional Council, has condemned the conversion of Jaffna National College of Education (JNCOE) at Koappaay into a military QC.

SL military wants to cremate remains of controversial monk inside temple premises

The occupying Sinhala military is preparing to stage the cremation of the late Kolamba Medhalankara Thero, who was causing ethnic tensions through the controversial project of Sinhala-Buddhicisation at Neeraaviyadi in the ancient Tamil village of Chemmalai in Naayaa'ru, Mullaiththeevu. The project was launched in 2009 by a genocidaire commander of the SL Army, Major General (retd) Jagath Dias and the late Anunayake of the Seruwila Saranakiththi Kalyani Sect, Seruwila Saranakiththi Thero, who was promoting Sinhala colonization along the border of North and East until his demise in May 2016. Kolamba Medhalankara Thero has passed away due to cancer, and the SL Army and SL Navy want to cremate him on Sunday at the premises of the Pi'l'laiyaar temple where he was violently installing a Buddha statue earlier this year.

SL military, police intervene in temple affairs in Champoor

The SL Police, along with the military intelligence wing of the occupying SL Army, have deployed their personnel to widen an ongoing rift concerning the consecration ceremony of the rebuilt temple. The Kumbhabhishekham is scheduled to commence on Sunday.

SL military continues to use school building as resort in Batticaloa

The occupying SL military continues to use the building of the Tamil school, Sarawathy Viththiyaalayam, as resort despite repeated requests to release the building. The SL military stationed along Batticaloa-Naavaladi Road 46 km north of the city is using the building, both as a camp and a resort for tourists from the South. The SL Army has not obtained permission from the Divisional Council to operate the resort, and when the Council took up the matter with the SL Army, the officers claimed that it was not a resort, but only a residence for the families and the relatives of the SL Army officers.

Assembling freedom of visiting UN expert put under acid-test in North-East

The representatives of the families of persons subjected to enforced disappearance at the hands of the SL military have complained to the visiting United Nations Special Rapporteur on Rights to Freedom of Peaceful Assembly and Association that their freedom of organisation is almost non-existent in the occupied Tamil homeland. Clément Nyaletsossi Voule, the UN special rapporteur, met the representatives of district-level organisations of the kith and kin of the missing persons as well as the rights activists and journalists in Jaffna and Trincomalee this weekend. The activists who attended the meetings with the visiting UN rapporteur in Trincomalee said that the SL Police and the intelligence wing of the SL military were harassing them both before and during the closed-room sessions on Sunday. The CID personnel were also closely watching the people accessing the meeting venue.

SL military in Jaffna hurriedly constructs Buddhist vihara in ‘HSZ’ lands in KKS

New Delhi talking about the ‘development’ of the KKS port and upgrading the Palaali airport without ensuring de-militarisation, is paving the way for socio-economic and cultural Sinhalicisation of the coastal stretch of Eezham Tamils in Valikaamam North, Tamil activists in Jaffna said.

The controversial erection of the giant Buddha statue at Neeraaviyadi in Chemmalai-East of Mullaiththeevu district is to be further expanded into a Buddhist enclave encapsulating 33,376 hectares of land area to the southeast of Naayaa'ru lagoon, reveals a poster put up by Ven Kolamba Medhalankara Thero, the ‘chief incumbent’ of the so-called Gurukanda Purana Rajamaha Vihara at the disputed heritage site. The monk is groomed by the occupying Sinhala Army's 593 Brigade, which is having its headquarter-base at Naayaa'aru. Scheming a large hermitage under the name of Gurukanda Purana Raja Maha Vihara (Gurukanda PRMV), the SL Archaeology Department, the SL Ministry of Buddha Sasana and the SL Ministry of Mahaweli ‘Development and Environment’ are backing the scheme, informed sources in Mullaiththeevu said.

SL military, police suppress traces of officer involved in fatal accident

The occupying Sinhala military and the police are trying to suppress photographic traces of a fatal accident as well as exerting pressure on the family of the 67-year-old victim who was killed on the spot in the accident caused by the speeding vehicle, which was driven by an officer-rank SL Army person. The accident took place in front of Nedungkea'ni Maha Viththiyaalayam school on Sunday around 7:00 pm in Vavuniyaa North. The driving officer was wearing a green military uniform, eyewitnesses said. The victim, Kanapathippillay Perampalam, was on his way to buy short eats for his grandchildren. He was on a bicycle.

Racist UNP Minister from Ampaa'ari deploys ‘human rights’ to terminate Tamil school

SL Minister of ‘Labour, Trade Union Relations and Social Empowerment’ Daya Gamage, widely known for his anti-Tamil politics in the district, has been working behind the scene to terminate the operation of the only government Tamil school in the town, Ampaa'arai Tamil Maha Viththiyaalayam, Tamil civil officials in the East told TamilNet this week. In 2016, the then Zonal Director of Education, Sunil Gunathilake, a Sinhalese, handed over the classrooms of the school to the ‘National Youth Corps’ under the influence of Mr Gamage without consulting the principal of the school, K Loganathan, they said. However, the racist minister has deployed a Sinhala journalist and the ‘Sri Lanka’ Human Rights Commission office in the district to harass the Tamil principal and a teacher to issue leaving certificates to the students in an apparent bid to cease the operation of the Tamil school, they said.

SL military erects giant Buddha statue at controversial heritage site in Mullaiththeevu

The SL military has now hurriedly replaced it with a huge Buddha statue disregarding the interim order and the protests of Tamil residents. The move comes after a delegation from the SL Archaeology Department in Colombo visited the SL military prompting it to accomplish the mission, civil sources in Mullaiththeevu District Secretariat told TamilNet. An extremist Buddhist monk, Kolamba Medhalankara Thera, staying with the SL Army's 593rd Brigade at Naayaa'ru is operating with the thinking that once the giant statue has been successfully erected, Tamil protests, as well as the interim orders, would lose their impact as the SL Constitution accords ‘foremost place to Buddhism’, the sources further said.

Eezham Tamils confront SL military-surveying of lands aimed at expanding Buddhist vihara

Occupying Sinhala Army's 593 Brigade, which is having its headquarters at Naayaa'aru in Mullaith-theevu, silently brought in SL Archaeology Department workers on Friday morning in a move to put up border-stones to permanently grab lands for expanding a controversial, military-established Buddhist temple into a stupa establishment. The project also absorbs a traditional Hindu temple worshipped by Eezham Tamils at the heritage locality of Neeraavi-eattam, which lies sandwiched between Naayaa'ru lagoon and the sea. SL Military-hired land-surveyors also accompanied the group. They were carrying a letter that had been issued by one Kekulawala, a high ranking Survey Department official, three months ago. However, the move was vehemently opposed by the Tamil villagers, who confronted the group, chased it away and uprooted the GPS-fitted stones that were put by the group.

As the protesting Tamil land-owners successfully blocked the surveying of the lands earlier this month, the intruders are now citing an Extraordinary Gazette notification, issued in 2013 (1823/73) during the times of Rajapaksa rule, to proceed with their plans of expanding the Vihara, the civil sources at the District Secretariat said.

SL Eastern Governor should publicly apologies for his wife's hate crime against Tamil devotees

The wife of Sinhala colonial Governor to East, Mrs Deepthi Bogollagama, on Friday desecrated the temple of village deities Kaa'li, Murukan and Vairavar worshipped by resettled Eezham Tamils at the hill-top of Maththa'la-malai in Kooniththeevu, a traditional Tamil village located near Champoor in Moothoor division of Trincomalee. While even the Sinhala police constables, accompanying the couple on an official visit, had removed their footwear before walking into the temple premises, the wife of SL Governor behaved in a desecrating manner. After being reminded by the Tamil female devotees, she started to verbally attack the devotees with a hostile body language and issued an open threat in Sinahala: “tamuselā okkomalāṭa denavā vẹḍē,” (තමුසෙලා ඔක්කොමලාට දෙනවා වැඩේ), which could mean anything from ‘you all would be dealt with trouble’ to collective death threat.

Colombo's ‘State Land’ seizure to affect thousands in Vadamaraadchi East

Under the so-called expansion of Chu'ndik-ku'lam bird sanctuary at Vadamaraadchi East, Jaffna, the SL Wildlife Department is systematically choking Jaffna Peninsula and Vanni mainland. The expansion from 25,550 acres into 48,300 acres is set to affect more than one thousand families from Mu'l'liyaan, Poakka'ruppu, Keavil, Niththiyaaveddai and Va'n'naan-ku'lam and absorbes schools and churches. Sinhala guards belonging to SL Wildlife Department have stationed at the locality and are throwing GPS-fitted border stones while they ride in vehicle across the villages. The SL military has issued death threats to the people who have been protesting against the genocidal land grab on Thursday and Friday. Colombo has accelerated the seizure of lands with the aim of converting all non-residential lands in the North-East into ‘State Lands’ before coming up with the sham of constitutional changes.

People express solidarity with protests, low-key New Year in North-East

Eezham Tamils in North and East observed a largely silent Chiththirai New Year this year as the uprooted people in Mannaar and Mullaiththeevu are on the streets waging continuous protests along with the kith and kin of those subjected to enforced disappearances at the hands of the occupying Sinhala military. A protest march was staged in Vavuniyaa in support of the protest of the families of enforced disappeared. People wearing black armbands took part in the protest. In the meantime, occupying SL military personnel wearing traditional Sinhala clothes attempted to ‘celebrate’ New Year with protesting people at Keappaa-pulavu. The protesting people declined the offer and firmly stated that they would only celebrate New Year after getting their village back.

Uprooted people of 5 coastal villages in Jaffna issue 4 weeks ultimatum to Colombo

Three senior leaders of the newly launched ‘Five Villages Development Joint Committee’, representing 6,000 families from Kaangkeasan-thu'rai, Oo'ra'ni, Mayiliddi, Thaiyiddi and Palaali, the five coastal villages that have been subjected to military occupation and complete annihilation of civilian infrastructure during the past 27-years, declared this week that their organiastion would launch a mass struggle. They have issued 4 weeks of ultimatum to SL President to respond to their appeal. If there is no positive response to their final appeal, they would undertake a relentless mass struggle until full resettlement, said veteran rights activist Vijayaratnam Ratnarasah, who has been involved in trade union, civic bodies and a convenor of one of the first citizens’ committees in the Tamil homeland since 1960.

Religious conflict instigated in Koara’laip-pattu South, Batticaloa

Unidentified persons believed to be from outside Vaakaneari GS area entered the Hindu temple of Sri Chiththivinaayaakar, situated 18 km west of Vaazhaich-cheanai town, desecrated the Linga statue and vandalised the temple on Saturday night. Similar events are also reported in the past twice at Iththiyadi Sri Siththivinaayakar temple in 2014 and 2015. The villagers suspect external elements engaged in a covert ploy to instigate violence between different religious sections among the Tamil-speaking people in Batticaloa. During the regime of Rajapaksa, there were some mischievous moves to change the administrative borders to facilitate demographic changes. However, Tamil politicians managed to block such attempts.

SL Navy proceeds with controversial Buddha statue in Nayinaa-theevu

Disobeying the interim order from the SL Government Agent of Jaffna district not to commence the construction of a controversial 61-feet Buddha statue at Nayinaa-theevu, the occupying Navy of genocidal Sri Lanka and the chief monk of ‘Nagadeepa Rajamaha Vihara’ at Nayinaa-theevu, have started the construction work on Sunday morning, the Tamil villagers at the islet complained. The monk, Ven Navadagala Paduma Kiththi Tissa Thero, treated by the SL Navy as a leader who stands above the executive SL President on Sinhala-Buddhist affairs of the entire island of Lanka, has fixed the timing for the commencement of construction work. SL Navy personnel were deployed in large numbers to suppress any protest from Tamil villagers at the islet located south west of Ooraath-thu'rai (Kayts) harbour.
